Following Christ is not about becoming perfect overnight. It is about allowing God to continually shape our character, choices, and hearts.

Most spiritual growth does not happen all at once.

It happens little by little.

One decision at a time.

One response at a time.

One moment where we recognize that the way we used to react is no longer the way we want to live.

Becoming more Christlike is not simply about knowing scripture. It is allowing what we know to transform who we are.

That can be uncomfortable.

It means examining things like pride, jealousy, resentment, bitterness, dishonesty, unforgiveness, impatience, and the many other attitudes that can quietly settle into our hearts.

It is easy to recognize those things in somebody else.

The harder work is recognizing them in ourselves.

But conviction is not meant to leave us feeling hopeless. It is an invitation to grow.

Where there is bitterness, God can teach us forgiveness.

Where there is pride, He can develop humility.

Where there is rage, He can teach self-control.

Where there is division, He can show us how to pursue peace.

Where there is cruelty, He can grow compassion.

And where there is hopelessness, He can restore faith.

That is the beauty of spiritual growth.

God does not simply reveal what needs to change. He gives us a better direction to move toward.

There may be days when we get it right and days when we realize there is still work to do.

Both can be part of the journey.

Being Christlike does not mean pretending to have reached perfection. It means remaining willing to be corrected, shaped, softened, and strengthened.

It means asking ourselves:

Does this response reflect Christ?

Do these words reflect Christ?

Does the way I am treating this person reflect Christ?

Does what I am carrying in my heart reflect Christ?

Those questions can change us.

Not because we are trying to perform for other people, but because our relationship with God should gradually affect the kind of people we become.

Growth takes time.

Grace gives us room to keep growing.

And every day gives us another opportunity to choose a little more love, a little more patience, a little more humility, and a little more of Christ.
